Cityteam Ministries and its clients got a helping hand Dec. 2, 2014, from online education leader HotChalk Inc. on behalf of partner institution Concordia University – Portland.
The 40 Silicon Valley employees packed food boxes for families and prepared meals at Cityteam’s San Jose, California, men’s shelter. In the learning center, a group tutored Cityteam clients to help fill educational gaps and conducted mock job interviews as part of Cityteam’s career services.
HotChalk and Concordia Portland also donated 1,300 blankets and 1,700 water bottles.
“We so enjoyed your group and are so thankful for the boost in keeping us in the recovery and homelessness business. We couldn’t stay open without the help,” said Dee Dee Kiesow, development officer at Cityteam San Jose.
Cityteam, which also provides services in Portland, Oregon, was chosen because its mission to passionately transform the lives of individuals, families and communities matches Concordia Portland’s mission of preparing leaders for the transformation of society. Concordia Portland is a private, Lutheran, liberal arts university. Cityteam Ministries is a nondenominational Christian nonprofit that serves the poor, the homeless and the lost.
